    Combined Results of the V.I.Pace Runners/4-H Cross-Country Series

    V.I. Junior Males compete in Pan Am Junior Championships… 


    The Virgin Islands Track and Field Federation announced today that V.I. National Junior Team members David Walters of the Cheetah’s Track Club and Charlotte Amalie High School ran a personal record to advanced to the semifinals to finish 6th  in the 100 meters with a time of 10.68 in the Pan American Junior Championships in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Friday.  In the quarterfinals he finished third in 10.74.  Calvin Dascent of the Barracudas Track Club and the St. Croix Educational Complex High School finished 8th in the semifinals of the 400 meters with a time of 49.62.


     


    Walters will compete in the 200m on Saturday.  Both athletes will join with senior V.I. National Team members in San Salvador next week to compete in the 1st NACAC Championships.


     


    Devon Peters, Coach for the team indicated that the athletes performed well and that David Walters continues to improve with experience as they gear up for their first year as college student athletes.


     








    V.I.PACE Bulletin $ 4-3-07  V.I. Runners Take Top Spots in 19th  Paradise 5K…  


    The top distance runner in the Virgin Islands, Billy Bohlke led more than seventy runners to the finish line on the beautiful Bucanner Hotel grounds in the 19th Paradise 5K with a time of 16 minutes and 44 seconds.  Bohlke took the lead early in the race which was run on the grounds of the Buccaneer Hotel, the route for the St. Croix International Half-Ironman Triathlon, as Juan Robles, of St.Croix Central High School and the top V.I. high school runner, was in close pursuit along with triathlete John Roth of Canada as the three were under 5 minutes at the first mile.  Roth took second in 17:10 and Robles third in 17:40; Seymour Walter of the St. Croix Educational Complex was fourth in 18:31; Nicholas Bernal was fifth in 18:35. 


    Triathlete Rebecca Roth (sister of John) was the first woman to cross the finish line in 20:21.  Ninfa Barnard, the top high school distance runner in the V.I. was second in 21:37; Erica Sweitzer, of St. Croix was third in 21:54; Mireille Smith of St. Croix was fourth in 22:20 and Gabrielle Dela Cordez of Canada was fifth in 22:43.

    VIPACE Bulletin  # 5-4-07  Results the 9th Chrldren Run Christiansted—Hounds and Foxes and St. Croix Track Club runners put in great performances… 


    Christopher Wilson of the Hounds and Foxes Track Club led a field of 60 plus children 13 and under and 9 and under from Sunday Market Square at the top of King St. to the Scale House in the National Park, the same route the finishers of the St. Croix Half-Ironman Triathlon will take on Sunday; Christopher the 630 meters in 1minute and 33 seconds.  Malique Smith of the St. Croix Track Club was the second place finisher over all and the first 9 and under runner in the race, his time  was 1:37; Christele Blanc of HFTC was the first female finisher and third place overall, her time was 1:39.9;  Karen Dascent of the St. Croix Track Clube was the second place female in the 13 and under group with a time of 1:41; Kahlid Behamon of Iqra Academy was the second place finisher in the  13 and under boys group in 1:42.2; Jasmine Willocks  of the HFTC was the third place female 13 and under girls in 1:43.6 and Cameron Hoss of St.Croix Country Day School was the third place boy in 1:47.8. 


    Malique Smith was followed by Barthalemy Peter of the Church of God Holiness School for second place in the 9 and under boys, his time was 1:47.0; third place went Shayquan Grant of the HFTC in 1:49.4.  For the girls 9 and under, Shamiyah Burke of HFTC was the first place finisher in 1:52.8; second place went to Mikaela Smith of the SCTC in2:01.8 and Anna Robacker of CDS was third in 2:07.1. 


    The runners ages ranged from 3 years to 13.  The distance for the race is 630meters. Hundreds of onlookers gearing up for the Jump Up cheered the group as they made their way to finish.
